Notable facts[]

  • Taylor was raised on a Christmas Tree farm in Pennsylvania. When she was little she was too weak to haul Christmas trees so it was her job to remove the praying mantis pods off of the trees but one time she forgot to remove one and when a family took the Christmas tree home they ended up spreading all over their house.
  • Before she got famous, she wrote a still unpublished 300 page novel called A Girl Named Girl.

Can we please go to Nashville?” When she was 11, during spring break, they went. Her mom would pull up outside of record companies, and she'd rush in and say to the receptionist, “Hi, I’m Taylor. I’m 11. I want a record deal. Call me.”[2]

What it seemed to me, the way it was phrased in culture, society, was that you hate men. And now, I think a lot of girls have had a feminist awakening because they understand what the word means. For so long it’s been made to seem like something where you’d picket against the opposite sex, whereas it’s not about that at all. Becoming friends with Lena – without her preaching to me, but just seeing why she believes what she believes, why she says what she says, why she stands for what she stands for – has made me realise that I’ve been taking a feminist stance without actually saying so.”[20]
  • Taylor's song "Welcome to New York" from her 1989 album includes a quiet tribute of her support for the LGBTQ community. A lyric in the second verse reads "And you can want who you want/ Boys and boys and girls and girls."
